A101 Art Class- Drawing
In this open-ended course, students will learn how to more clearly express what they see. We will focus on the foundational elements of portrait drawing, such as composition, perspective, proportion, light, and shadow. Our class material will include demos, lectures, critiques, discussions, virtual museum visits, and at-home assignments.
Most importantly, each student will be encouraged to strengthen their own personal styles and learn to apply their unique interpretations into their artwork.
Any two-dimensional medium (pencil, watercolor, markers, etc.) is welcome.
The live and interactive online class will be conducted over Zoom, with two weekly
90-minute meetings.

미술에서 가장 기본적이고 핵심인 인물 드로잉, 구성, 원근, 명암등 중요 요소들을 집중적으로 다룸으로서 사물을 정확히 표현하는 능력을 기릅니다. 수업 시간은 강의 뿐 아니라 각자의 작품들에 대해 의견을 나누고 명작들을 연구하는 시간도 갖습니다. 일률적인 테크닉 중심교육 보다는 작품에 대한 개인의 독특한 관점과 해석을 발견하고 발전시키는데 중점을 둡니다. 연필, 수채화 물감, 마커가 수업시간에 필요합니다.

A102 Elements of Drawing and Watercolor Painting
Creating Expressive Works of Art with Pen and Brush
Discover the art of drawing and watercolor paintings while unleashing exciting originality within your work. You will learn about the fundamentals of drawing with pen and brush, and colors, color value, color mixing, composition, and how to paint with more freedom. Please feel free to bring your photos or objects to work from (any photos that you’ve taken). The instructor will also provide some photo reference.  All levels welcome.
A102 기본 드로잉과 수채화 
기본 컬러, 구도를 습득하고 붓과 펜으로 드로잉을 공부하고 자유롭게 그림을 완성시킬수 있는 능력을 기릅니다. 자신이 찍은 사진과 여러사물들을 사용하여 수업을 진행합니다.

Painting material will be discussed later in the class. Watercolor sketchbook 9”x12” (140 LB)Watercolor paints.

A103 Color Exploration with works of Henry Matisse and Josef Albers
Students will learn about colors and how colors interact with each other through a close study of works by Henry Matisse and Josef Albers, two masters of color. During class, students will study, experiment with, and create using colors. After completing ten weeks of exploration, students will have the confidence to further expand their use of color in their art. Color pencils will be used during the Zoom lesson, but other media are welcome for assignments outside of the classroom. No drawing skills are required.

두 거장의 작품속에 나타난 색을 탐험하고 연구하여 전반적인 색과 색사이 의 반응, 관계, 개념을 이해하고 사용하도록합니다. 색연필을 지참 필수.

A104 Learn to draw from Old Master Drawings
In this open-ended course, students will learn how to draw what they see by studying Old Master Drawings’ use of line, shapes, positive/negative shapes, form/line, and form/light/shade. We will then apply the same analysis to our drawings.
Our class material will include demos, lectures, in-class drawings, discussions, and at home experiments. Beginner through Advanced students welcome. Any drawing medium (pencil, pen, color pencil, etc.) is welcome.
A104 대가의 작품을 통해 그리는 방법 배우기
학생들은 렘브란트와 피카소 등 옛 거장들의 작품 속에 나타난 선, 모양, 포지티브와 네거티브 모양, 형태와 선 및 형태와 음영의 관계들을 살펴봅니다. 그리고 이러한 보는 훈련을 계속 익히면서 또한 각자의 그림에 이를 적용하는 것을 배웁니다. 
수업은 데모, 강의, 실습, 토론으로 진행됩니다. 효과적인 학습을 위해 주중에는 각자의 계속적인 연습을 권장합니다. 초급부터 고급까지 환영합니다. 어떤 그리기 매체 (연필, 펜, 색연필 등)도 환영합니다.

A105 Discover the art of watercolor painting with Still life
This 10-week class will introduce the student to the basic techniques of watercolor paintings and unleash exciting originality within their work. Students will learn about tone, color mixing, composition, and how to paint with more freedom. Individual critics are essential for each class, and other students can also learn from that individual guidance by listening and watching while they are working on their paintings. Lectures and demonstrations will be presented as needed for working in this lively medium. All levels are welcome.

A105 정물화로 수채화의 예술을 발견하세요
이 10 주 수업은 학생들에게 수채화의 기본 기법을 소개하고 작업을 하면서자신의  독창성을 발견하도록 돕습니다. 학생들은 톤, 색상 혼합, 구성 및 더 자유롭게 페인트하는 방법에 대해 배웁니다. 각 수업 중에 개별지도가 병행되며,다른 학생들은 자신의 그림을 작업하는 동안 다른 학생들의 개별지도를 듣고 보면서 배울 수 있습니다. 강의와 및 시연이 제공됩니다. 모든 레벨을 환영합니다.

Hellen Cha-Kim is a professional teaching artist with experience working with college students and adults. She has provided instruction at art schools, colleges, and has offered private lessons as well. She has taught drawing, painting, studio art, and photography. Hellen received her education in fine arts at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. She has been on the faculty at Alvernia University from 2007 to 2016, an art director at Albert Conservatory from 1994 to 2015, and a teaching artist at Jersey City Art School from 2018 until now.

Artist Statement
The best reward for being an artist is living an exciting life by seeing the world around me more attentively.  As nature reveals, I am fascinated by the relationship between form, color, tone, and energy of living organisms. With a classical art education background, I have focused on oil painting figures, including self-portraits. Also, I gradually broadened my interest in the landscape, to still life, and watercolors. I am a student of nature, and from it, I learn “how I should paint” rather than “what I should paint.”  I am currently a full time working artist in Greater New York. I look forward to continuing to serve my community through visual art.
